PRG Homebuyer Education
Home Stretch Workshop
PRG's homebuyer workshops can help walk you through the home buying process. Workshops include information on:
- working with lenders
- credit and budgeting
- special loan programs
- working with realtors
- home inspections
- what to expect at a closing
- being a successful homeowner
Attending a nine-hour homebuyer workshop (usually in two or three sessions) is recommended before scheduling one-on-one counseling, and is required by most lenders offering special loan programs. And it's a great way to learn to make good choices as a first-time homebuyer.
The workshops are presented in English. Interpreters are also available for other languages.
Workshops are open to any person or family thinking about buying a home. There is no minimum or maximum income limit. To cover the cost of supplies (including a detailed workbook you can keep), we charge a one-time fee of $40 per household.
Homebuyer Counseling
After completing a homebuyer workshop, call to schedule an appointment with a homebuyer counselor. A counselor can:
- confidentially review your finances
- access and analyze your credit report
- assess whether you are currently eligible for a mortgage
- help determine what you can afford and which mortgage loan programs best fit your financial situation
If you can't afford a home or qualify for a mortgage now, your counselor will help you make a plan to get on the road toward home ownership.
This service is available free of charge to any person or family thinking about buying a home. There is no minimum or maximum income limit. There is a small fee for your confidential credit report (optional).
